Equestrian portrait of an officer of the Tenth Royal Hussars in review order of 1819 comprising bell topped shako with gold lace and black cockerel feather plume, fur lined pelisse, braided jacket with multiple rows of gold lace and regimentally specific blue facings, crimson and gold barrel sash about the waist, blue grey cossacks with single gold stripe; the horse furniture comprising regimentally specific bridle of the Ziethen’s Hussars in black leather applied with multiple cowrie shells, leopard skin saddle cloth, scarlet holster covers, shrabraque, sabretache, all decorated with gold lace and the Prince of Wales’ feathers. F.W. Barry (active 1887-1945) was an Assistant Librarian at the Royal Library, Windsor. A skilled draughtsman, he reproduced a number of military paintings by Morier and Drahonet in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle by the special permission of George V.
