Parkinson to attend the Waterloo Banquet held annually on Waterloo Day (18 June) at the Duke of Wellington’s London residence Apsley House at Hyde Park Corner from 1829 and the duke’s death in 1852. Invitation dated ‘Friday 18 June’ [1847]. Card: 8.2cm x 11.1cm. Framed and glazed.

Lieutenant-General Edward Parkinson, late 33rd Regiment of Foot, was commissioned Ensign in 1796 whence his regiment were posted to South Africa and India under Colonel the Hon. Arthur Wellesley (afterwards 1st Duke of Wellington). Promoted Captain in 1805, he served as as Deputy Adjutant General at the capture of the island of Bourbon (1809-10), becoming Brevet Major in 1811 and Major in 1813. In the latter year, having returned home with the 33rd, he served with his regiment in the Low Countries, including the attack on Merxcem, Antwerp, and Bergen-op-Zoom where he was wounded. On 16 June 1815 he was severely wounded at Quatre Bras. Created a Companion of the Bath, he was appointed Major-General on 9 November 1846. Colonel of the 93rd Regiment of Foot in 1852. He died on 14 January, 1858 and was interred at St James's Church, Piccadilly, London.
