The present figure bears stylistic similarities to the figures of the five Guardsmen by Gilbert Ledward (1880-1960) for the Foot Guards Memorial opposite Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall, London.

The present Guardsman wears Irish Guards 'cloth' shoulder flashes, '08 pattern webbing, gas mask on his chest, and backpack with shovel and entrenching tool slung beneath. On his lower right sleeve are three overseas service chevrons, one for each year of  foreign service. On his left sleeve is a single wound stripe. His upper sleeves bear the chevrons of a Lance Corporal. He is armed with the standard infantry weapon of the day, the 1907 Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Mark III 0.303- inch rifle. He wears long puttees, and a Brodie Mark I steel helmet introduced in 1916.
