Queen Alexandra (1844-1925)
Alexandra of Denmark was Queen-Empress Consort of Edward VII from 1901 to 1910. Her family was relatively obscure until her father was chosen with the consent of the Great Powers to succeed his cousin to the Danish throne. At the age of sixteen she was chosen as the future wife of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VII). As Princess of Wales from 1863 to 1901 she won the hearts of the British people and became immensely popular, and was able to sway the opinion of ministers and her family to favour her relations who reigned in Greece and Denmark. She greatly distrusted her nephew, Wilhelm II of Germany.
