mounted on an ebonized wooden base. The silver fittings on the front of the trophy show a badge of the regiment, the dates 1882 & 1947 and the name Pte. G.O. Heefke.
The Assam Valley Light Horse was raised in 1882 by members of the English Tea Planting community. Comprising plantation owners, managers, tea merchants and shippers, it was part of the Auxiliary Force in India, and provided officers and men for the British and Indian armies in both World Wars. The Corps was disbanded on the granting of Indian Independence in 1947, when the he remaining ‘Mess’ funds were dispersed to manufacture these silver Rhinos trophiers for members of the regiment on disbandment the same year.
